Why does not my guide jump to the next page?

Last Updated: Apr 18, 2017 05:45PM WEST

The step element is not a Click

With Helppier you have different action types of guide steps you can select specifically for each step of the tutorials: Walkthrough step, Click on element, Mouseover, Dropdown, Automatic typing, Pop-up messages and On-hide. To select one of these, you just need to select on the Step Settings Show Settings and then Actions. However, when choosing from the six options, you should keep in mind that there are certain step elements for which an action is better than another for the tutorial to perform to the best of its capability. This is exactly what happens when you want to jump to another page in your tutorial.

- Only a Click on element can redirect you to another page for the guide to continue playing there. This method can be used to simulate a mouse-click on an element as if the user manually clicked on it. As it is, you should first make sure that your element is a click, for if it’s not, Helppier is not able to jump to the next page.

To learn more about this and about the best ways to use the other Step Actions, please refer to our Article on Actions - Step Settings.

The next page’s URL is incorrect

If the element is a click and Helppier still does not jump to the next page, then you should make sure that you are linking the correct URL and that the page exists.

Hidden pages: Does the page exist for all users?

Other reason why Helppier might not be jumping to the page you desire, is  merely because it is invisible, which means that not all users have access to it.

There are many web pages that are invisible to certain users. For instance, web pages protected by password or that require you to create an account for you to have further access to the whole of the website. In other words, this means that you can access a website and, while using Helppier, be unable to jump to a certain page because, simply put, it is password-protected. This page will remain invisible unless you have the password or you create an account.

You have then to make sure that the page is visible to all the users and accounts.

Script installed on the jump page?

Helppier might also not be jumping correctly to the next page because the script isn’t installed in the following step’s page. In this case, all you need to do is check if you copied and pasted the script correctly.
